maracuya

Enjoy this easy and refreshing maracuyá juice recipe made from fresh passion fruit. Perfect for a tropical treat, this sweet-tart drink is rich in vitamins and antioxidants.

What is Maracuyá?

Maracuyá, commonly known as passion fruit, is a tropical fruit from the Passiflora plant family, prized for its vibrant, aromatic flavor and health benefits. It is typically round or oval and can have either a yellow or purple outer skin, depending on the variety.

Inside, the fruit contains a gelatinous, seed-filled pulp that is bright yellow or orange, with a unique sweet-tart taste. Native to South America, maracuyá is widely grown in tropical and subtropical regions across the globe.

The fruit is not only enjoyed for its delicious flavor but also for its nutritional value. Maracu-yá is an excellent source of vitamins A and C, fiber, and beneficial plant compounds like antioxidants, which promote heart health, boost immunity, and support healthy digestion.

It is often used in juices, smoothies, desserts, and sauces, making it a versatile ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes.

Instructions

  1. Instructions:

    1. Prepare the Fruit:

      • If using fresh maracuyá, cut each fruit in half and scoop out the pulp along with the seeds into a bowl.
    2. Blend the Pulp:

      • Add the maracuyá pulp (with seeds) into a blender along with 2 cups of water. Blend for about 15-20 seconds to separate the pulp from the seeds. Do not overblend, as it can crush the seeds and make the juice bitter.
    3. Strain the Juice:

      • Pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh strainer to remove the seeds, pressing down to extract all the juice.
    4. Mix the Juice:

      • Transfer the strained juice back into the blender. Add the remaining 2 cups of cold water and sugar. Blend for a few seconds until well mixed and the sugar dissolves.
    5. Chill & Serve:

      • Pour the juice into glasses over ice cubes (if desired), garnish with mint leaves, and serve immediately.
